The idea to organize this event came solely with the goal to bring friends, and many other good people together, to help raise funds, increase awareness of mental health and  benefit the Toronto Distress Centres (TDC).

Distress Centres at a Glance

 

24/7 Distress and Crisis Line

·         Serves the GTA; 365 days a year

·         For over 45 years, has provided essential, life-sustaining emotional support to those in need

·         Receives over 100,000 calls each year

·         Provides high-risk crisis follow-up by telephone when requested

·         Provides back-up and after-hours service for social service and mental health providers

 

Survivor Support Program

 

·         Provides individualized support for survivors - bereaved family and friends - of suicide and homicide

·         Provides follow-up series of group support sessions

·         Maintains Suicide Resource Centre

·         Consultation and support to community and caregivers in the aftermath of sudden, violent death

 

How  the TDS’s Money Is Used

 

$70.00 keeps the helplines open for one hour

$140.00 keeps the helplines open for two hours

$500.00 covers the cost of screening and training one volunteer

$840.00 keeps the helplines open for half a day

$1,680.00 keeps the helplines open for 24 hours

$2,532.00 enables us to provide one week of support services for survivors through their Survivor Support Program
